Our Impact Stories

Success Story Alert!

We’re excited to share an inspiring story from one of our dedicated youth farmers who recently made a game-changing decision! 🙌

This young farmer was preparing to transport 1.2 tons of tomatoes to Kumasi. After much discussion, he agreed to switch from traditional wooden crates to our recommended plastic crates for the journey. As an A/B test, we allowed him to pack one wooden crate and carry it along for comparison. The results? Absolutely remarkable! 🚛🍅

Upon arrival at the market, not a single tomato in the plastic crates was crushed or spoiled, meaning he didn’t have to discard any produce. Every kilogram was sold, and he received full payment! 💯. However, the tomatoes in the wooden crate told a different story—see the attached results for comparison.

This isn’t just a win for him—it’s a powerful example of the impact of proper post-harvest management practices. By simply switching to plastic crates, this farmer preserved the quality of his produce and maximized his profits. 💪

At FreshLine PHS, we are dedicated to empowering farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to reduce losses, improve quality, and increase their earnings. This success story proves that small changes can lead to big rewards! 🌟

Let’s continue driving innovation and excellence in our farming practices. The future of agriculture is bright! 🌱

Tackling Tomato Production Challenges Together

I recently joined a team of agricultural experts and consultants from Agri-Impact Limited, the Mastercard Foundation, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana, to meet with leaders of farmer groups and cooperatives in Akomadan. Our mission was to investigate the drastic decrease in tomato production levels and identify the best ways to assist farmers in increasing their yields.

One of the primary causes we identified was the reliance on rain-fed farming, which has been severely impacted by erratic rainfall patterns. The lack of irrigated lands forces farmers to depend heavily on unpredictable rains, leading to inconsistent crop production. Other significant challenges include high input costs, dependence on manual labor—which limits the ability to cultivate large tracts of land—and land acquisition issues, as many farmlands are being converted to cashew, teak, or cocoa plantations.

During our visit, I had the opportunity to introduce the activities of FreshLine Post-Harvest Solutions to these farmers. I highlighted the importance of proper post-harvest services, especially during times of low yields. With harvests already limited, we cannot afford to lose any more produce.

Together, we are committed to finding sustainable solutions to support our farmers and ensure food security.
